There is nothing more disturbing in the world than a world that won’t listen. The more we fight, the more we lose touch with each other and what is important to us. Our families take a back seat to our causes and our needs and it is time to turn that around. We need unity in the world and among us and it is not that far out of our grasp. Just lay down your arms. Lay down your fears about everyone else, and what everyone else is going to do to you today. Think about what someone might do for you today and what you might be able to do for someone else. There is more to life than defense of one’s interests. There is more to life than the solitude we contain, just trying to get through the day.
There is the day.
There is a day before you, brilliant with possibilities anad opportunity. There is a day before you, waiting for you to take grasp of it and get everything out of it that you can. There is a day of promise and love and friendship and hope. And that there is one day after another, that gives us chance after chance to do something good – that is a great gift. That is a gift we have come to squander, and the world is suffering for it.
We’ve lost faith in this country and in many others, because we have resigned ourselves to thinking that this is just how it is. This is our lot in life. We’ve been oppressed so long by those with too much, that we think we can never recover. But this is not the case now, nor has it ever been. Is it a fight to get the world into the hands of people who care about it? Absolutely. But it is a fight worth fighting, and one that is energizing. You are taking part in a process that is for the good, and that is sending out positive energy that helps everything you do and reach for. Yes, there is the question of what people think of as the greater good. If we all agreed on what is the best thing for everyone, we wouldn’t be in this mess. But most people really do agree that what we need at the end of the day is a home they can afford, healthy children they can raise, and the ability to get the care they need, when they need it. They also want to feel good about where they live and who lives near them, and that they can sleep soundly at night. This is not out of reach.
The answer is organization. The answer is a community deciding for themselves what they want their lives to be like, whether that community be a neighborhood, or a country. You know what is right in life. You don’t need to be told by politicians or anyone else. But it starts with you, and if you can create peace around you, you can spread it everywhere. It is not as hard as it sounds. It starts with one thought, with one belief that everything can be good, and with taking the gift of another day to make it happen.
