John Lennon
1940-1980
John Lennon was killed soon after his 40th birthday in 1980.  Intelligent, outspoken and articulate in life, he continues to share his thoughts with us.  Below are some of his insights.
On Humanity:

Humanity is the greatest work of art.  It’s destructive, beautiful, loving, hateful, moving, deliberate, a complete contradiction. And yet, it’s necessary to have all those parts.  We need everyone in the way they are, believe it or not.  Even when you see that something is wrong, that someone doesn’t work the way they should or something, there is still something there that is necessary because it ignites someone else to move. To become active in response to what the other person is doing.  Or to do nothing and regret it later.  Everything ignites something else, and those who behave badly, or destructively, are necessary, in order to get the others into action.  They are necessary instigators.  Because they are a mirror to humanity and even those who are trying to do good, need a mirror sometimes in order to better themselves and see what they really are, not just what they think they are.  Some people will pat themselves on the back for being great people until they see someone who is being destructive, and others who are doing nothing about it, and realize they are one of them.  They need to be motivated and that does it for them.  Or not.  But they need the instigator.  And they need the mirror.

What is your view of this war?  What do you think will happen because of it?

There are a great many things that are going to happen because of it, but one in particular is, like I said with the mirror, people will start looking at things differently and more closely.  Which needs to be done.  People have stood back for too long, watching and letting someone else do everything, putting their trust in people who will only hurt them, as a population.  They will scrutinize their leaders more closely and take more actions into their own hands.  This is the time to act.  This is a test on everyone remotely touched by this.  You remember the uprisings of the late 1980s?  Well, there needs to be an uprising here, too.  Too much is happening that need not be happening and would not be happening if people were not so complacent during this time.  It will not magically be OK.  America is in danger of being led and represented in the wrong light, down the wrong path.  It has nothing to do with partisanship; it’s to do with humanity and how you want to be seen by the rest of the world, and by yourself.  Whatever your beliefs, let them be known.  You don’t have to agree or disagree with anyone else.  Just take a stand.  Complacency will be the downfall more than the perils of war.

What do you notice differently about the world from your current perspective, than when you were here?

Nothing was as against me as I thought.  I was surrounded by a lot more love than I knew, or would admit.  I had a sort of fear of love and affection that made me fight against it.  It was because I didn’t know what to do with it and didn’t trust it, and it made me defensive and destructive and there was no need to be.  I wasted a lot of good time feeling that way, but I didn’t know better and those are issues I had to work on and am still working on.  I always feel like, next time I’ll do it better.  Next time I’ll remember seeing it this way and know that I am loved and that it’s nothing to be afraid of or to dismiss or push away from me.  I can only hope that I will deal with it better next time.

Do you feel that you will return to human form?

Sometime.  I’m not in a hurry, because there are still things I want to fix and achieve here, so I can be in better shape, spiritually, when I go back.  I want to be a better father, teacher, husband, friend, brother, than I was the last time I was there, and I expect that I will be able to do that.  I’ll probably still have the same sense of humor, but with less insecurity next time.  I’m looking forward to it.  I just want to be more ready.  I feel like I’ve learned a lot here.

Are you with George Harrison much?

A lot of the time.  He has other things he is working on.  He was further ahead of me in a lot of ways and he is still exploring, while I feel that I am working on healing.  He is doing well.  He was ready to come here and also has much to share.  But being the eternal student, he is off learning most of the time.  But he will be back.  He will have much to share.

What do you think you came to Earth to do?

It was more a personal journey than one that was to move the Earth, so to speak.  It just happened that in that time, I did things that touched other people, and they could learn from me, and my music was something that moved them.  I got to be the instigator for others, and my voice had power, for whatever reason.  But the main reason was personal growth.  I had a lot to learn and experience and I did, and I am still learning.  I’m glad I went, as painful as it was sometimes.  But there was a lot of joy too, and that is what everyone needs to remember about their own lives.  The joy always outweighs the pain, if you let it.  It’s all about what you let it mean to you.

Do you have a message for us?

Just this:  don’t let the little stuff get you down.  Do enjoy life.  But also, don’t be wasteful of your time.  Let yourself feel the pain and the loss, and reach out to others who are in more pain, and have more loss.  Look yourself in the mirror and change what you can and say bugger to what you can’t.  The beauty and growth and importance are inside you and in your intentions and decisions and actions.  But intention alone isn’t good enough.  You must act.  You must take action in your lives and do the best you can with your time there.  Either on a small scale or a large one.  If every day, you are trying to do the best you can, and grow where you can, and love where you can, you are doing fine.  So, don’t beat yourself up over what you can’t do, but make sure you are doing something.  You will be glad you did.  You will leave the world a better place if you do.  Even the smallest things are important.  Don’t pass up the opportunity to do something.
